On November 19, 2024, the Coordination team of the WOOD4LIFE project, belonging to the Department of Sustainable Development of the Regional Government of Castilla-La Mancha, organized a technical visit to the Alto Tajo Natural Park. This activity is part of the actions of the European project, aimed at promoting sustainable forest management and the enhancement of ecosystem services.
The day was attended by representatives of several of the partners involved in the development of the project: the consulting firm Dendron Soluciones, the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), the technical team of the University of Castilla-La Mancha, as well as technicians and environmental agents of the Provincial Delegation of Sustainable Development of Guadalajara.
During the visit, they toured the areas planned for the implementation of the preparatory actions of the project. These interventions will be carried out in FSC-certified public forests located within the Alto Tajo Natural Park, where species such as Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) and laricio pine (Pinus nigra) predominate. In these areas, pilot actions will be developed to test improved forest management practices, with the aim of maximizing wood quality and obtaining more long-lasting wood products. These practices will also help to increase carbon sequestration, conserve biodiversity and strengthen other essential ecosystem services.
WOOD4LIFE, co-financed by the European Union's LIFE program, aims to foster innovative models of forest governance, promote the market for ecosystem services and contribute to climate change mitigation through active and responsible management of forest resources.
This activity reinforces Castilla-La Mancha's commitment to sustainability, biodiversity and rural development, highlighting the strategic role of forests in the fight against climate change and in the generation of opportunities for rural areas.
