Visit to MUP nº 243 Valtablado (Beteta, Cuenca)

MUP nº 243 Valtablado

Last Wednesday, June 18, 2025, the WOOD4LIFE project team made a technical visit to the Public Forest nº 243 "Valtablado", owned by the Junta de Comunidades de Castilla-La Mancha, located in the municipality of Beteta (Cuenca).

During the day, technicians from the Provincial Delegation of Sustainable Development of Cuenca, environmental agents and technicians from the University of Castilla-La Mancha, partner of the WOOD4LIFE project, participated in the event.

One of the main milestones of the visit was the installation of an Eddy Covariance station, a key tool for measuring carbon and energy flows between the ecosystem and the atmosphere. This station will allow validating and correcting the estimates of net primary productivity (NPP) obtained by classical methods based on:

  • Inventory of woodland and shrubland.
  • Allometric relationships
  • Quantification of soil carbon, both in its inorganic and organic fractions.

This action is framed within the objectives of the WOOD4LIFE project to improve knowledge on the role of forest ecosystems in climate change mitigation and to promote sustainable forest management based on scientific data.
